Maraming prediksiyon ang mga fans sa UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament na magsisimula sa darating na Sabado.

Naniniwala ang iba na mananatiling ang defen­ding champion University of the Philippines at De La Salle University ang teams to beat ngayong season.

Pero sa mga coaches, ang host school na University of Sto. Tomas at Natio­nal University ang kanilang napipisil na magbibigay ng magandang laban sa UP at La Salle.

“UST, because that homecourt advantage,” ani UE coach Chris Gavina kahapon sa naganap na press conference sa Gloria Maris, Greenhills, San Juan.

Karamihan ng laro sa first round ay gaganapin sa UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

“UST at NU, sila ‘yung tingin kong aabot talaga,” ang sa tingin naman ni A­damson coach Nash Racela.

Maging si Bulldogs head coach Jeff Napa ay aminado na malakas ang Growling Tigers.

Sa linggo makikilatis ang España-based squad, dahil makakatapat agad nila ang dadayong Figh­ting Maroons sa alas-4:30 ng hapon.

Maghaharap sa ope­ning day ang Far Eastern University at Ateneo sa alas-2 ng hapon habang magkakaliskisan sa pa­ngalawang laro ang A­damson University at DLSU sa 4:30 ng hapon.

Samantala, aprubado sa University Athletic Association of the Philippines ang rule na pinapayagan ang mga eskuwelahan na paglaruin ang dalawang foreign student-athletes sa kanilang team na magsisimula sa Season 89.

“This was approved this year and, like all our rules, will take effect the follo­wing season—so starting UAAP Season 89,” pahayag ni UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene “Rebo” Sa­guisag Jr. “For all sports, teams can have two foreign student-athletes in their pool, but only one can be part of the active roster at a time, with the other on reserve.

Hindi lang sa basketball, pinapayagan ang nasabing bagong rule sa lahat ng UAAP sports.

Tuluyan nang dinismis sa serbisyo ang tatlong opisyal ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office na sangkot sa maanomalyang flood control projects sa naturang lalawigan.

Ayon kay DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, ang dismissal sa serbisyo laban kina dating Assistant District Engineer Brice ­Ericson D. Hernandez, Construction Section Chief Jaypee D. Mendoza, at Accountant Juanito C. Mendoza, ay bilang tugon sa utos ni Pang. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na panagutin sa lalong ma-daling panahon ang sinumang may direktang kinalaman sa maano­malyang flood control projects sa Bulacan.

Sa desisyong inilabas ni Dizon, napatunayang sina Hernandez, Jaypee at Juanito ay guilty sa mga kasong Disloyalty to the Republic of the Philippines and to the Filipino People, Grave Misconduct, Gross Neglect in the Performance of Duty, at Conduct Prejudicial to the Interest of Service.

“Wherefore, premises considered, Respondents Brice Ericson D. Hernandez, Jaypee D. Mendoza and Juanito C. Mendoza are found GUILTY of the administrative offenses of Disloyalty to the Republic of the Philippines and to the Filipino People, Grave Misconduct, Gross Neglect of Duty, and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Service under Section 63(A)(1)(d), (f), (h), and A(2)(a) of the 2025 RACCS,” nakasaad sa desisyong may petsang Setyembre 15, 2025.

Kaugnay nito, sinabi rin ni Dizon na ang mga sinibak sa serbisyo ay pinatawan din ng perpetual disqualification to hold public office, upang kailanman ay hindi na makahawak pa ng anumang posisyon sa ­gobyerno.

“Accordingly, they are hereby ordered DISMISSED FROM THE SERVICE, with the accessory penalties of perpetual disqualification from hol­ding public office, forfeiture of retirement benefits, except accrued leave credits, and cancellation of civil service eligibility, pursuant to Section 73 of the 2025 RACCS,” anito pa.
